How in the world did we end up in Canada? The Hurricane Leg…

As we pull into Victoria Harbor this afternoon after a day of sailing on a sunny 30 degree day, Tim and I realized we really needed to document how we managed to come from the red sand desert of Hurricane UT to the sparkling Vegas Strip to chilly, beautiful Canada in 2 weeks. What a wild month.

We’ll start with Hurricane and the 25 hour Frog Hollow Race. On November 5th, Tim, Noah, Sam, Gretchen and Brad banded together as team 9 Cloud Cycling for the world’s longest 1 day race held on Daylight Saving’s fall back day. When they made the decision to race in the warm comfort of a Jackson Hole September Indian Summer Day, no one predicted 30 degree temperatures in normally temperate Hurricane UT.

But no matter that snow was in the forecast, the race was to go on. Starting at 10 am, the first rider (Tim) ran the 100 yards toward his bike in a La Mans style start. Then for the next 25 hours, teams traded out riders in a relay around a 12 mile rocky, rolling 12 mile course. Teams range from 1 person, to 2 man up to 10 person corporate teams. The most popular division, the 5 person coed hosted 2 Jackson Hole representative teams.

9 Cloud Cycling, roared to 4th place out of 12 teams despite cold, flu and darkness. Fellow Jacksonites, Kurt, Jaclyn and Clint, joined us in the bitter cold temperatures with Team Honey Badger for an all night sufferfest.
