Cactus Christmas

After a hiatus, the blog is back! And what better day to begin again than Christmas Day in AZ?

Tim and I started the Christmas season with a bang when we flew back to SLC from Virginia, picked up Lauryn and drove to Jackson for the annual Vertical Media Holiday Party. As always, Carli planned a wildly fun bash. Though Elks Club bowling was put on hold, this crew always manages to have a great time together no matter the activity or the locale.

Christmas fever continued with visits to friends around JH and then a trip to UT to help Jimmy Hauschild ring in the big Four O. Birthdays led to holiday parties as we tagged along with Jimmie and Keri on the Christmas holiday rounds in Salt Lake City. From homemade eggnog and white elephant at Mike & Nicole’s to Amanda & Charlie’s rockin’ holiday do, we had a great time. Thanks to Ryan, I now have the ultimate white elephant gift for 2011. VM beware…

After Christmas and Solstice celebrations with Jimmie and Keri, Tim and I packed up Frank and began driving south. Destination To Be Determined.

Christmas Eve Eve we settled in Vegas. We thought to ourselves, “How busy could Vegas be on Christmas?” Answer: Very Very Busy. We drove Frank with the Jeep in tow down the Vegas Strip in a mad traffic jam of people. Overwhelmed, we bailed on our planned search for a Vegas St. Nick and instead drove out to the Hoover Dam where the dark skies and peace of the desert were a welcome relief.

Christmas Eve at Hoover Dam

Christmas Eve, we visited the new bridge across Lake Mead which allows a brand new view of the Dam. Another traffic jam later, it amazed us how many people this engineering feat draws.

Chilly in Vegas

Ready to leave the crowds, we left Nevada to head to Prescott AZ. We decided to surprise Dad and Lisa with unexpected Xmas Eve houseguests. They handled our 1 day of warning like pros and we shared a Christmas Eve feast complete with Champagne and Egg Nog.

Dad's Amazing Model Collection

We slept in Christmas morning and woke up to presents, a visit from Cousin Wendy, stories in front of the “fire” and Christmas carols. Mid afternoon we said our Christmas farewells and turned our Frank & Jeep Caravan to Scottsdale. Tonight we are looking forward to wassailing with Ann and Scott in the 75 degree desert. A great way to spend a holiday!
