Meeting Monday

Plains Indians? It was a meeting Monday for us all.  Tim’s partners Bob and Dan came from Alpine and Bozeman, respectively, for a day of strategizing.   Jimmie Shell was an Eastern Idaho road warrior, traveling 300 miles to Dubois, Rexburg, St. Anthony and Driggs for meetings with local telecom companies.  I was in the office, finally feeling caught up from a month and a half of journeying.

Tim snuck out of his meetings just in time to catch the sun on our neighbor’s teepee.   It’s a full size, 15 foot tall by 20 foot wide canvas structure.  I’ve never seen anyone coming or going, I think it’s just large yard art.

The highlight of our Monday was definitely dinner with Jimmie and Dan.  Dan came down in his newly outfitted Sportsmobile, Vincent “VAN GO”….Vinnie for short.  I think it comes with the territory that if you have a Sportsmobile, it must have a catchy name.  We spent 20 minutes checking out every nook and cranny.  With two little kids under the age of 5, Dan and his wife, Rebecca, had to be creative with storage space.  His true calling is to design mobile living spaces for parents.  The van is perfectly outfitted with flat screen TV, “play pen”, living room, dining room and two bedrooms – all in the same 60 square feet.  It’s impressive.

After the tour, we came back inside and settled in for a tasty meal of Beef Bourguignon, crockpot style, and football.  Jimmie is a big Steelers fan and it was a great game for the boys in Black and Gold.  The entire night was liberally peppered with lots of talk about the economy, elections and the Dow’s biggest drop ever.  The

Let’s hear more of the household debates about current events! I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for the dinner discussion on Monday night (. . .well, actually I would really have enjoyed participating in them!) I commend you for taking these issues onto your blog. Every household in the country – I hope – is talking about the current economics and politics today.

It is our complacency as citizens that has allowed the current situations to evolve (and of course, the significant fact that most people were making mega $$ in the stock market, real estate market, dot coms and buying everything else they wanted on credit).

Scott and I are having discussions daily, and these are the immediate topic of conversations with friends and colleagues. So while we all enjoy the day to day life, even as an escape from life’s reality and it is always interesting reading (and no one enjoys more the lives of her pets than I do!), I say bring on the controversial stuff for us to share with each other- at least through this crisis and elections (which may also turn into a crisis!). I am certainly no activist – and anyone who knows me will recognize that. But this is a time for health discussion and debate in everytown USA.

I gotta get my props in. Dan does not design Sportsmobiles for parents alone!!!! He is the engineer, but the designing is a joint effort. Every little detail has been discussed, shopped for and measured by both of us. Ok, now my ego can rest – good night and carry on.
