Rainy Days on the Potomac

Tonight Tim and I are comfortable and out of the ever present, misting rain in West Virginia.  After a restful day at Kevin and Georgia’s, we drove up i70 to Shepherdstown, WV.  I grew up in Shepherdstown and it’s one of my very favorite places.  The town was founded in 1734 and still has the cachet of the old days.

When I grew up, German Street, our main street, was full of homes, a few pizza places and the occasional dusty book shop.  Today the pizza place has been replaced by a tea shop, the dusty stores with jewelers and bistros.   Restoration is on everyone’s agenda and the town is intently trying to capture its early years.  It’s succeeding.  While it is more touristy than I ever remember, I love seeing my little town go backward in time.

We’re spending the next few days with my Mom and stepdad John.  It’s been another great sanctuary from travel.   Tonight we splurged for the Bavarian Inn, Shepherdstown’s oldest fine dining restaurant and weekend retreat for many a Washingtonian.  I have many memories of this grand gray stone inn, and I couldn’t wait to share them with Tim.  We sat down for delicious Bavarian dining and wonderful company.  It’s great to be home!

I am very sad that you ran away. I am bored not having a face to lick or a computer mouse to chase. I will take a quick nap and see if you return for more fun and games. RUFF RUFF
