The Colors of New England

I think Mark Sigman was surprised when he got up this morning to find 2 vagabonds in a large van sleeping in his Connecticut driveway.  Tim and I had pulled in at 3 am last night after driving 7 hours from Washington, popped the top and immediately climbed exhausted into bed.

By 8 am, we’d gotten enough sleep to be civil again and we rolled out of bed to say hi to our host.  Mark was heading to London today, but we had a chance to catch up with him and his girlfriend Christine over coffee.  We talked mountain biking, dogs and homemade jam.  Mark gave us a jar of his fresh apple butter to send us on our way.  We can’t wait to try it with some biscuits as soon as possible.

We then drove into nearby Unionville and settled in at the Caffeine Cafe for a day of work.  We were treated to delicious coffee, good internet and very hospitable service.  It was a great place to be productive.

Farmington River

By 5 pm we’d each gotten alot done and decided to explore some of our surroundings before climbing back into Frank.  We drove to the Farmington River and crunched down to the banks over the fallen leaves.  Though it is still early for the Leaf Peepers, Fall is starting to make its way across New England.  This was one of the highlights that Tim and I have been looking forward to, so we delighted in kicking up the leaves around us.  The trout were rising in the river, the ducks were cruising the banks and we relaxed with some of Sylvia’s Brunswick Stew for a perfect dinner in the c0ol, crisp Fall evening.

Then we took off again for the last leg of our trek to Maine.  Tonight we’re settled just inside the Maine border in Kittery.   Tomorrow we’ll travel up to Portland for a night on the town with Lauryn and then up to Acadia.  We’re excited for some slow exploring but already miss everyone in DC.  We hope you’re feeling better Casey!
