23 years ago a tradition began. Billyfest #1 was held in Blackstone to celebrate the birth of Mr. Billy Coleburn. Today, Tim and I have decided to resurrect this great occasion.
Happy Birthday Billy!
Last night the celebrations began with a trip to Blackstone’s Acapulco Mexican Restaurant where we met up with Billy, Joyce and [...]
Tim and I woke early after our first night’s sleep in a bed in 28 days. We’re comfortably ensconced in Blackstone for the week while we catch up after month of a whirlwind travel schedule. We’d looked forward to getting comfortable and not driving to get our internet for the first time in weeks and couldn’t [...]
This morning we received the worst news. Our friend’s Peg and Kieran lost Peg’s sister and brother-in-law in a terrible car crash last night. Their 4 young children survived. Our hearts and thoughts go to Peggy, Kieran, and their family. We are so very sorry for your loss.
The Washington Post has the story on this amazing [...]
Well my Royal Dukes weren’t up to the challenge at the William & Mary Homecoming Game this Saturday. While I didn’t need to see a trouncing, I hoped that JMU would at least show up to the game. But by the end of the 4th quarter, as the score crept up to an embarrassing 24 to [...]
After 4 wonderful New England Autumn weeks, Tim and I have come home to Virginia. We left late last night and drove 6 hours to arrive in Smyrna, Delaware at 3 am. At 7 we were on the road again and arrived in Salisbury in time for the work day to begin.
Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel
Yet again [...]
Tim and I enjoyed Mystic so much that we talked his friend Mark Sigman to come and meet us on the coast for dinner Tuesday night. So after work, he and his girlfriend, Christine, made their way East to the Coast. While we waited for them to arrive, Tim and I decided to explore nearby Stonington.
Mystic Drawbridge
After 3 days of storms, Monday dawned clear, blue, and cool. You’d never guess the winds that blew nonstop yesterday by looking at the still water of Mystic River today. Tim and I spent the day working at Starbucks before heading downtown to explore the town.
Mystic Fire Department
We walked along the river and [...]
Saturday morning we climbed out of bed early in order to make the first ferry to Block Island. Despite the forecast of storms, we wanted to explore this harbor village 13 miles off the coast of Rhode Island. We rode our bikes down to the ferry dock and settled in for the hour ride across Block [...]
After 5 blissful, beautiful days in Provincetown and North Truro, Tim and I packed our bags and drove southwest off Cape Cod. A Nor’easter is on its way up the coast and last night’s rain and wind have already washed away a few feet of Atlantic shore line from the Cape.
Despite the blustery forecast over the [...]
Cape Cod Evening
For the past two days, Tim and I have been making the most of the seemingly unspoken “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” camping policy of Provincetown. Upon being told that we couldn’t take our nonpermanent sewage holding tank on the beach, the ranger mentioned that he’d seen vehicles parked overnight in the [...]
Running on the Dunes
Sunday morning Tim and I decided to take a day to relax. We woke up, pulled out our books, read, made breakfast, showered, washed laundry, listened to football and relaxed. We were determined to not rush and we succeeded. After the errands were done, we then drove the last [...]
Today, Tim and I tried our hand, or more accurately our pedals, at East Coast Mountain Biking. After some research, we read that Mt. Agamenticus, just outside of Kennebunkport, has some of the best biking in Maine so we decided to give it a shot.
Though the trails are short, the terrain is more technical than we’ve [...]
Pemaquid Point Lighthouse
After just 2 weeks of travel, Tim and I have discovered some changes to make in our travel habits. We need to see less and stay longer. You just can’t do a place justice when you race through it in a day, or worse, a few hours. Especially [...]
In 1910, John D. Rockefeller determined that automobiles would not ruin the pristine beauty of Acadia. He donated $40 million to the Park in order to build a system of one lane roads that would only be used for carriages, horses, hikers and bikers. 30 years later, 57 miles of roads traverse the island, allowing visitors [...]
Bar Harbor is a town by the Sea. Here you will find such establishments as The Inn by the Sea, Lobster by the Sea, Beer by the Sea, even Sewing by the Sea. It’s a town that deeply understands who it is and why it exists. Tourism.
On Sunday, Tim and I decided to spend our day [...]
The Best Clam Chowder in Maine
After two amazing days in Maine, it’s time to catch up.
Friday found Tim and I heading back south to Portmouth, New Hampshire on the border of Maine and NH. We were meeting Mark Miller from Axis who I work with quite a bit for FIT. I don’t think he ever [...]
I think Mark Sigman was surprised when he got up this morning to find 2 vagabonds in a large van sleeping in his Connecticut driveway. Tim and I had pulled in at 3 am last night after driving 7 hours from Washington, popped the top and immediately climbed exhausted into bed.
By 8 am, we’d gotten enough [...]
