Reassimilating

After weeks in the desert, Tim and I worked on re-assimilating into Jackson. Our arrival home last night was greeted with a joyous reunion with Belle, our surrogate Great Pyranees. She bounded around as Tim and I slowly moved our things inside at midnight. After too short a sleep, we were up again at 6 getting ready for the week.

I started web work while Tim got moving on Vertical Media projects. In between, we managed to do some laundry, say hello to Calley Cat, and settle in.

By the afternoon, the work day was in full swing and we’d reconnected with many folks in Jackson via the internet. I ventured into town and braved the Jackson Hole Post Office, a remarkably unfriendly place during phone book season. For those who don’t know Phone Book Season, during this two week time every June, huge tomes are delivered to everyone’s mailbox.   Most folks don’t have mailboxes to support them so we all stand in long lines with package slips. The clerks are grumpy as they watch phone book after phone book get handed across the counter and then walked to the giant recycling bin in the office and dumped. It’s a Jackson ritual but made getting Tim and my month’s worth of mail a long wait.

Then it was off to the Brew Pub for some real assimilating. It was a big birthday party for Sam Fitz and we were glad to help him ring in 30 years. We joked and drank good Brew Pub beer, and went home exhausted after more socialization than we’d had in weeks. It was very fun, but we were both surprised how quickly you get out of the social habit!
