Who Says Training Has to be Good for You?

More Chicken... Today we had…more training. It was another early morning and another day of meetings and work. But once we were done, we each hopped on our bikes for some riding.

I never thought I’d say it, but exercise truly is addictive. After a few weeks of aches and pains, it really seems natural to be on a bike. Even though it was gray and cold, it was a pleasure to be ride this afternoon. Tim used his bike time spinning inside, but I got out in the cool air and pedaled the day’s stress away.

After my invigorating ride, I dropped my bike off at Fitzgerald’s for a much needed tune up and waited for Tim to arrive. He had had a few slivers of pineapple all day and was starving so we debated dinner options. Since we were already so close, it was very very tempting to go for a Billy’s Burger, even though it was definitely not in the training program. Even McDonalds french fries nearly won the day. But instead we decided to be responsible and head to Albertsons to buy dinner.

And then we smelled the Chicken. I swear Albie’s pumps the smell of fried chicken out into the parking lot to prime you for when you enter the doors. We headed straight over to the deli counter and without even thinking, bought a 10 piece fried chicken dinner. It was a no brainer. We followed our chicken training yet still made it delicious. A perfect compromise. As Tim says, “Fried Chicken is second only the McDonald’s Cheeseburger as the perfect training food for replacing fat and calories.” While I don’t need all my fat and calories replaced after a ride, who was I to argue as I ate my first tasty drumstick!

As we drove home with our delicious goods, we got a message from Dee Stewart. As we speak, he is in Raleigh watching Jimmy Buffett at yet another great outdoor show. Tim and I had a good night, but I’d have traded all the fried chicken in the world to join him and Angie under the stars with a margarita in hand!
