How the Day Gets Away

Light Reading Tonight Tim and I are recovering from a long day of meetings, meetings, meetings.   Though we each had big goals for getting things done this evening, we ended up relaxing instead. After a delicious and spicy meal compliments of Ann, we countered the hot peppers with cold ice cream compliments of Scott.  Then Ann and I chatted into the evening while Tim kicked back and caught up on back issues of Outside and Fast Company.

It was a relaxing evening that was probably needed, but Tim and I both can’t figure out where the day went.   We each had high hopes of exercise and productivity that just didn’t pan out.  Distractions come from all directions,  but for Tim and I in particular, they tend to emanate from our computers.  Flickr,  Videos, Facebook and Twitter.   News postings, blogs, and Friend Feeds.  Keeping up with sports, the nation and friends from high school all squeeze the time out of the day.

How can 5 minutes on Facebook turn into 2 hours so fast?  It the world’s most effective procrastination tool. Well unfortunately I will have to set it aside for a month or two.   April is going to be the testing time for remote work with Factory IT.  With some good luck and hard work, Tim and I will be back on the road for May to Escalante, Moab and Fruitta.   But it will take setting aside distractions for a time in order to be prepared.  The huge Facebook machine will roll on with or without us.  It’s time to get back into the swing of things.
