Day 3 of 429apallooza was another blue bird day in Park City. Tim and I woke up to another knock on the window. This morning it was Alex, we had committed to breakfast duty and it was time to get moving. Alex and I ran to the store and 45 minutes later, we had a banquet of bacon, biscuits, eggs, and sausage gravy. It was a porkfest to start the day.
After some discussion, we decided to take the bus up to Deer Valley for the day of skiing. It was a little icy but as the sun settled on the snow, things softened up. Tim and I had a little homemade tele clinic where I actually had some break through moments! Then we hooked up with the group which was now 14 strong. Weiser, Casey, Trish, Jimmie, Alex, Nicholas, Mike, Joe, Chico, Mel, Georgia and Kevin.
It’s amazing that we are all able to stick together for skiing. But after a lesson Mel and Georgia are racing down the mountain, Casey is skiing great too, and the rest of us are working on keeping up. It’s been a ball!
After the lifts closed, we went back to the Deer Valley base area and watched the qualifying rounds for the World Cup Mogul Championships. The racers bounce down the steep, huge, icy bumps like they’re nothing. These guys are 100% rubber. I don’t know how their knees do it. Alex who is an Olympic racer herself, gave us the inside scoop of the racing world while we watched skiers fly down.
Once the cold was too much, we left the competition to get some hot tubbing in before dinner. Reservations were for Chez Betty, one of Park City’s best restaurants, at 9 so we had some time for relaxing. We melted into the hot tub and then some of us took turns for showers while others cleaned up in the sink. Just as we were getting ready to leave, Kieran, our last 429-apalloozer, arrived. He’s come to Utah from DC for 36 hours for the festivities. Now that is commitment!
Dinner was a hysterical affair of great food and much discussion of the mysterious happenings at the Hauschild abode. The mystery should be solved by 429-apallooza 7.0 when the guilty party must step forward! Our night ended with a showing of HotDog the Movie – the classic crowd pleaser. It was a full day of skiing and much laughter with great friends!
