It was a bright sunny wake up this morning. The sky was a brilliant blue, the sun high above, and the temperatures a perfect 75. I love Jackson, but in midwinter, this is heaven. Mom and John picked me up and we met up with Peg, Joe, Brie and Timmy for some museum [...] After 62 inches of snow over the past 7 days, nothing in this valley is staying put. Today the temperature rocketed up to 40 degrees and the top layer of snow got heavier and heavier on an already unstable snow pack. As I joked around in the office with Ed and Zach this morning, they [...] Everyone woke early this morning, with the concern of avalanche on their minds, so we decided to ski Targhee for some safer terrain. We loaded up Frank with our skis and the Bourne family gear and headed over Teton Pass in another blizzard. At Targhee, we were treated to rock-star parking in the upper lot [...] Today tragedy struck our mountain. After massive amounts of snow over the last 5 days, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort spent the morning bombing the mountain to trigger as many avalanches as possible before declaring the area safe for skiing. As we ate an amazing Christmas ham and egg breakfast, we could hear the reverberation [...] This morning, Tim and I went to work. Tim’s work took him to his desk in the bedroom, while mine took me into town. But even with a little travel it was a mellow day post Christmas. I was able to leave early at about 3 and came home to find Tim and Scott [...] This Christmas was one of superlatives. Phrases like most snow, best skiing, greatest food, yummiest cookies, were all applied. As Tim and I went to bed after a fantastic day, we both agreed we wouldn’t change a thing. Tonight I will give awards to our extreme bests of Christmas. Extreme Avalanche – When we woke [...] It’s finally Christmas Eve, one of Tim and my very favorite days. We are a good match. Tim loves nothing better than to go shopping on Christmas Eve. Meanwhile I like to wrap presents on Christmas Eve. I wrap his purchases. It works out perfectly and we both get [...] “It was as good as it gets.” This was Tim’s quote for his day skiing. Finally after no snow all Fall, the Pacific storms have lined up and Jackson backcountry is brimming over with bottomless, champagne powder. And even better, there ’s another 1 to 2 feet predicted for the next two days. I [...] Today was full of good luck and surprises. At 6 am, the snow report from the Village was announced – 8 new inches at mid mountain. That would usually meant about 4 inches on the Valley floor. Not a big dump, but early season everything counts. With this expectation in [...] Several days ago, Tim surprised me with tickets to Scrooge!, a musical rendition of the Christmas Carol, performed at the new Center for the Arts. I was shocked, knowing Tim’s aversion to musicals, but excited for the show. Today after spending all morning writing articles for VM, we headed out into the snowy [...] Today was a day of phases. Phase 1 was the Cold Phase. We woke up in the van in the parking lot of the ski resort. The heater had run all night and Frank was a comfortable 60 degrees. But despite the warm temperature, it was still hard to get out of [...] Tonight starts a new era in Jackson Hole! After being Tramless for 2 years, Jackson finally has it’s signature red box back. For those who’ve never been to JH, it may be hard to imagine why a single ski lift would cause such a commotion, but for many skiers, Jackson has [...] Tonight Scott arrived back home. Things are feeling more like Christmas! Even Belle who has been mopey all day couldn’t stop wagging her tail when she heard Scott’s voice. We all gathered around for dinner and catching up. Scott had just arrived from Vegas where he’d been caught [...] Tonight I felt like I was back to school. It was my first class for Empowered Technology and though I was instructing, I am positive that I learned far more than the “students” did. It’s been a little while since I’ve stood in front of a class and thankfully I had such patient people [...] This week has been all about preparation. Yesterday Tim cruised up Glory for a smooth snowy ski down. Today a far more achy, tired Tim made a second trip up the hill. His quote to me, after I asked him how it went once he’d arrived back home, says it all. “Pretty good” [...] Finally Winter has come to Jackson Hole! In tough economic times, a dry winter is the last thing that anyone needs in a ski town. So now that the snow has come, everyone is celebrating. We’ve had steady accumulation over the past few days – 6 inches here and 6 inches there. More is [...] Between my bad cold and Tim’s late night, this morning we started off slowly. But we had a big day of decorating scheduled so we needed to rally. Together with Ann, we convened to sort out the strategy of meals for the week and decorating for the holiday. Scott will be [...] After weeks of preparation and planning, Tim’s Board Meetings are over. And every year that means…Christmas Party! This year promised to be a good one. Tim and I began the festivities at Sidewinders watching the Tarheels sluggishly beat Oral Roberts. Once we were pretty sure the game was sealed, we crossed the street to [...] When Tim and I finally ran into each other, it was after a full day. He had finished up a day of productive and I quote, “invigorating” board meetings - invigoration for 2009 and new ideas. I, on the other hand, was finishing meeting Kim and seeing buddies before the JMU/Montana FCS semifinal. Zach, [...] Last night when Tim and I got home, we did something we knew we shouldn’t. I can’t even say why we did it. Morbid curiosity I suppose. After a week of eating wonderful Southern food from Taverns, the Williamsburg Inn and most delicious of all – Sylvia and Pat’s kitchens, we each stepped on [...] |
