Tonight we’re spending the night in the big city. After 3 dusty days in the Death Valley desert, we’re showering up and going to play the night away in Vegas. We first went to Hoover Dam, planning to take the tour, but the 3 mile backup of cars, all with the same [...] We woke up at our warm campsite looking over Death Valley. Breakfast was Cowboy Omelet before we geared up for a bike ride into the mountains that surround the valley. Our campsite is about 100 feet below sea level, so we were biking to get above the water line. 1 1/2 [...] Happy Thanksgiving desert style! Tim, Keri, Jimmie and I decided that we needed a warm dry Thanksgiving. Last year was spent on the frigid White Rim Trail in the snow. This year we decided to compensate. We planned for Red Rocks outside of Las Vegas, but the forecast of rain and 50 degree [...] After 8 hours of driving, we’re leaving Las Vegas and posting the blog on the last bars of cell service before heading into the desert. This morning we woke up at Jimmie and Keri’s with the best of intentions. We planned an early morning of errands and Thanksgiving grocery shopping, followed by a departure [...] Tim and I were up early this morning getting ready for our Thanksgiving weekend. Today was a busy work day, and we knew there would be no time for packing. We piled all our clothes and gear in to Frank and then headed to work. At 4:30 sharp we then [...] Tonight we shared a very welcome Homecoming! Ann and Scott are back in Jackson. It’s great to have them home. Their arrival really marks the beginning of the holiday season for us. As we approach the holiday season and when times are difficult, it’s good to remember all the benefits we achieve by helping each other. We have no snow in the valley, shoot, we barely have any snow in the mountains. Two weeks ago things started to look whiter [...] Despite some tempting offers to catchup with friends as well as enjoy one of Tim’s very favorite meals, the $6 Dollar Burger & Beer Special at the Cowboy Steakhouse, we stayed home this Friday night to get some work done. The stock market sank to it’s lowest levels since 1997, before the internet boom. Just when things had seemed to be stablizing, credit markets have seized up again, consumers are scared and the government’s $700 billion bailout doesn’t seem to be working [...] We have 10 minutes before Quantum of Solace and Tim has told me not to be late. So here is the quick version of a great day. This morning started early. Tim woke up with so many ideas at 3:30 am he couldn’t go back to sleep. He got out of bed and was [...] Today marked the start of the Basketball season. Yes we’d had a game or two before, but with ESPN’s solid coverage of 24 hours of nothing but college basketball games, beginning with Memphis’s midnight game last night, it’s really here. Nothing is sweeter than the sound of Dick Vitale’s excited voice describing [...] This week the theme of Tim’s photos is patterns. By focusing on patterns, he will be concentrating on different elements of composition in photography. For tonight’s picture, the theme is captured well by Ann’s beautiful pottery! Pattern is also a good theme for our Monday as well. When we are home, we sometimes find ourselves [...] Sundays are just never long enough. I would be happy to add at least 2 or 3 more Sundays to any given week. This one went by just as fast as they usually do. We started off with a big treat, Tim’s favorite addiction, a DOG spicy veggie burrito. Yes, I’ve said it once, [...] Today was the first game of the regular season for the UNC Tarheels! That’s right, we’re back in college basketball season. The boys in Carolina Blue carried it through despite Hansborough and Ginyard sitting on the bench with minor injuries. Everyone should be healthy in a game or two, so UNC [...] Our story picks up at midnight last night. I went to bed, content knowing that the newly partitioned drive booted happily and the old data was safe and sound. Next time I rolled over, Tim was finishing up the transfer…it was 3:30 am. In the interim from when I had closed [...] Tonight had all the makings of a productive evening…and then Tim came home with the new computer. As I’ve blogged here over the past month, Tim’s decrepit, outdated, 9 pound brick of a laptop has experienced a turn for the worse. No longer are the bags of Green Giant Peas, which he’s used to [...] It was a day of full of funny moments. Late last night Tim posted his going away present to BJ on the Intranet for Vertical Media. This morning the entire VM sales team was greeted with the image below of BJ’s face photoshopped onto David Hasselhoff’s body. It takes a glance or [...] Though not a holiday that many of us celebrate with a day off from work (except the Post Office, which I remembered too late as I tried to mail a package today), Veterans Day is an important tribute to the men and women who have fought for the United States.
