Today we woke up to the perfect autumn day. Tim, Jimmie and I packed up Frank for camping and headed north to the Buffalo Fork of the Snake. Jimmie had been craving some flyfishing and there is no better place in Jackson to go in the Fall. The entire valley north of the Park is full of aspens, cottonwoods and grasses. When the season changes, everything turns bright gold and reflects off the water. It’s gorgeous.
Wolste had already set up camp at a great spot right by the river. We pulled in beside him and all went fishing. After a few lessons, Jimmie was casting like a pro and we waded to Tim’s favorite fishing hole and spent the entire afternoon casting. Only 3 fish were caught, not our best day, but the scenery and the company made up for the poor showing.
By the time we got back to camp, Ian was there with his kids, Ann and Parker. Just a few minutes later, we were also joined by Drew and Heather and their two boys, Noah and Waylon. Finally Martha arrived too. Kids and dogs were everywhere. It was delightful chaos. Tim and I relaxed for the first time since getting back to Jackson. We have had brief hours here and there of play, but today we put our computers aside and just enjoyed the perfect 70 degree day and good friends.
We ended the day with a huge campfire. Ian’s friends, Lyndsay and Jill came for the final event, and we all sat in the warm glow and while Heather and Wolste played guitar. It was a day of sun, laughter and golden Fall light, what a wonderful way to say farewell to Summer.

It is killing me to sit here and watch tonight’s kickoff of Amazing Race #13. Looks like the slot for Tim and I was filled by the frat nerds from AZ or the comic geeks from CA.
