The day began quite peacefully. We awoke in the quaint village of St. Michaels, MD. Feeling the need to catch up with current events, Tim picked up a Washington Post with his coffee. As we crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the endless fields of corn, soybeans and serene estuaries of Maryland’s Eastern shore gave way [...] Today we celebrated our last day on the beach. One thing this trip has taught us both is that Tim and I are beach bums at heart and we’ll be back soon. But for today we wanted to absorb as much beach time as we could. We woke up early and found prime spots on [...] We woke early this morning! It was another perfect sunrise and we made coffee and tea and sat on the overlook watching the sea at sunrise. As we sat, we were treated to the dolphins riding the waves. It always seems special when the dolphins come around and to watch them surf as the [...] For those who have never been to Assateague Island, it is a beautiful and completely unique place. The barrier island is 37 miles long and lies in both Maryland and Virginia. We are camped in the National Seashore in Maryland. The island is undeveloped and doesn’t have a road which covers the entire length. [...] Sure enough, this morning we were up and parked at the Ford dealership in South Hill at a bleary eyed 7:30 am. Thankfully Sylvia sent us out with a to-go breakfast feast of Sylvia McMuffins, cantaloupe, and yogurt parfait to keep us moving. Tim got out at the shop, went inside and told the guys [...] Some days you gotta shake your head and say, “That’s just life.” Tim and I woke up this morning excited to get back in Frank and begin our travels again. We are planning to drive to the Eastern Shore, camp at Assateague Island for two nights, travel to Ocean City for a night and then visit [...] There’s nothing quite like getting shaken awake at 5 am in the middle of a cemetery. It’s a unique start to any day. But 5 am is cougar time so we had to be ready for him. Unfortunately by 6:15 am, we were faced with the grim reality the big cat was too smart to [...] After a wonderful week of family visits, we were due to leave the lake. This morning the last remaining folks, my cousin Amanda, her fiance Max, my cousin Rosemary and her husband Scott, and Aunt Gail and Uncle Bob, gathered around for a final big breakfast. Wow, it was so great to see everyone after [...] The house has started to burst at the seams with family and today we maxed out. Aunt Holly, Uncle Steve, my cousins, Erin and Jenny and Joe and baby Holly arrived just in time for lunch. At 16 people, we were full! But with so many folks, the good family stories flowed. We learned [...] It was Frank’s day in the shop today. Tim left early to get to South Hill in order to get the van’s stalling problem diagnosed. Fortunately we’ve found a great Ford dealership to help us. Before Tim even got there, they were researching the problem and discovering more about our van then we even [...] Today was the very best bad day that Tim and I could ask for. Sometimes things just go haywire. Today was that day. But despite a series of misadventures, so many good things happened to counter balance them, I’m not sure whether to say it was the best bad day or the worst great [...] Today was another beautiful day on Lake Gaston. We’re spending the next 4 days at my aunt and uncle’s house just outside of Littleton, NC. Their property juts into the lake on the southern side, east of Eaton’s Ferry. It’s a gorgeous sanctuary. The house will be full with 8 people today and topping off [...] After 15 days on the beach, we made our way back inland. But first, we snuck in a little more beach time to properly say good bye to the Outer Banks. It’s been an incredible 2 weeks…next time it may be 2 months. To squeeze as much time out of the day that we could, [...] Today Tim and I settled in for a working Monday. We hoped for some beach/kite time in the afternoon, but as Monday rolled on and the projects continued, the day slipped away from us. We’ve been balancing work and play all week, but today we needed to let work win a little. Lunch was leftovers. [...] The house cleared out today. After a full week of kids’ laughter, lots of chatter and giggles, and Olympics on the TV, the house became quiet. First Christy and Dylan packed up and said goodbye with Pat and Bobby to quickly follow. Sylvia and Leroy were next to head out, after dividing up a [...] It was a party day from beginning to end! Tim and I have vacated the house and moved to Frank so that Christy and Dylan have a bed. Our new pad in the driveway suits us well. In fact, given the choice, I am pretty sure Tim would stay in Frank every night! After breakfast, [...] Some days it’s best to start at the end and work your way forward. Today was one of those days. Because honestly, it’s really hard to beat a night of miniature golf anywhere called Jurassic Putt. These guys do it with style. The T Rex that Mike is shooting beside doesn’t even compare to [...] Last night our group of 6 nearly doubled. Tim’s cousin Mike, his wife Phong and their kids Haley and Kylie arrived amidst the rain. The little ones were up later than Tim and I. We were beat and needed an early night. This morning was organized chaos. Ten of us now fill the house and [...] Rain rain go away! We woke up to gray skies for the day. The weather was cool and the skies drizzled rain on us all day. Tim and I started at the computers, getting our work done early while the rain kept the temptation of the beach at bay. At 10:00, I got a call [...] It was a gorgeous morning in Nags Head. Tim, Dee and I had a late night last night, but it was impossible to sleep in when the sun shone so brightly. We were up by 8 and ready for another spectacular Sylvia breakfast. Now I know that writing about the food everyday seems a little [...] |
