Yosemite is a beautiful park, filled with towering, polished granite rock domes, 1000 foot sheer cliff walls, fairytale waterfalls, and a MILLION people. We are in Yosemite with very minimal cell svc and almost no data access. We’ll catch up when reconnected! This morning we woke up bright and early at Walmart. Last night, about an hour outside of Fresno we were both exhausted. It was time to pull over. A little known secret outside of the trucking/RVing community is that Walmart parking lots welcome overnight sleepers. They tend to [...] It was more Google today for Tim and BJ. We got up early again and drove Ron Burgandy into the City. Lisa was spending the day with her sister and then she and BJ were going to Sonoma to see her dad so it made sense for the van to be [...] It was a big day today. We woke up early to get a little work done and then drove to BART in time for the 9:30 Google registration downtown at the Moscone Center. Lisa and I checked to see if we’d be able to get into the Flight of the Concords concert [...] Last night we’d arrived to camp well after dark. We drove across the lake bottom in disorienting blackness and camped in who-knows-where. So this morning we were excited to see where we’d ended up. We weren’t disappointed. The lake was spread out in front of us, perfectly flat. [...] We woke up today with the 4 of us packed in the van. Tim and I upstairs and Brittany and Cyprus below. It’s a city of about 40,000 people but feels more like a small town. The downtown area is vibrant and full of small shops, restaurants and bars. Tim and I wanted to get a bike ride before heading south so despite the chill we got up early and started to ride. Drew packed up to [...] This morning we woke up early and packed up camp. After 2 nights in Springdale, we decided it was time to revisit the Mesa. Instead of returning to Gooseberry though, we wanted to explore the next mesa south, Little Creek. We’d heard about fantastic mountain biking and fewer people – perfect [...] Today was a work day….well sort of. When you are on the road working it all seems fun and a lot less like work. We started the day with introducing Drew to his first Cowboy Omelet. It’s Tim’s concoction of hashbrowns, egg, onion and cheese that has become a staple of [...] We woke up this morning to a spectacular sunrise. Storms were rolling in, the wind shook us all last night, but the resulting morning light was well worth the picture of the day. Last night we’d planned morning bike rides but they were canceled after the first drops of water started to fall. [...] After a day of serious heat, we decided to go to Springdale, the town just outside of Zion, for reliable internet and cooler temperatures. In past trips to Zion, BJ and Lisa have found that the Springdale library, with its green public park outside, is a great place to get a lot of [...] Well we asked for summer, and we got it. In a BIG way. Today we woke up to balmy weather. The bugs had been bad in Gooseberry, by far more than we’d ever seen in our other trips here and this morning was no exception. And in addition to the [...] This morning started early. Jimmy, Cory, BJ, Lisa, Tim and I were heading down the Subway and we needed an early start to get things ready. Despite being up at 7 it still took until 12 to get breakfast ready, lunches packed, permits permitted, harnesses rented and shuttles run. After 5 [...] Today was a beautiful hot day in the desert! And after a day of technological headaches we were fully functional. Last night, BJ and Lisa went to WalMart and picked up a new wireless router on their way down that cured our internet woes. We were back up and running! The group [...] After a very early morning (2:30 am) arrival to Gooseberry, we fell into bed. 4 hours later, we woke to an beautiful sunrise and cowbells outside of Frank. The entire Gooseberry mesa is open range area and cows are everywhere. Today was a work day so we hopped online and started to get [...] This morning we all got much needed baths. Tim and I stayed with Jimmie and Keri in Salt Lake and borrowed a lot of laundry detergent and soap to get clothes and ourselves laundered. Frank was next. Jimmie joined us for an afternoon of spit shining the van after a week of dust and [...] Today was our last day with Sylvia and Leroy so we decided to make it a great one. We woke up in Kodachrome Basin to cool blue skies. Tim broke out his long board for it’s maiden voyage. So far no broken bones but it was an adrenaline filled start to the day [...] Today was a day in the Parks. At 5:30 am, we were up and driving into Arches National Park for sunrise. Arches is beautiful but small and the narrow roads get clogged with people pulled over snapping pictures. Getting there early meant we had it all to ourselves. [...] |
