We’re almost home! It’s time to go back to Wyoming, so this morning, we got on the road at 7 am Vegas time and drove out of town. Our night in the city was awesome even if a little tame by Vegas standards. We walked about a mile and a half to dinner. [...] Last night, after the Tarheels’ win over Louisville, Tim and I headed back to the party. They were showing some very cool climbing videos, presented by the climbers themselves. It’s inspiring to watch the things that people have scaled, but I can’t say I’d ever need to repeat their feats. There aren’t [...] Today we woke up early in the Nevada desert. The days have been warm and sunny, about 75 degrees, perfect for climbing. We pulled ourselves together and caught the bus for our 8 am clinic. Tim’s clinic was Intro to Sport Climbing. Today we started our climbing adventure. The entire group of UClimb participants were divided up in between groups of 5 or 6. This meant we got an enormous amount of personalized instruction for the day. We headed into Red Rocks to a crag called “Cut your Teeth”. Ironic for Tim who is already [...] Today we hit the road and cruised to Vegas! We are here for a 3 day climbing clinic called Red Rock Rendezous. I am working on some basic climbing skills while Tim is brushing up on his more well honed talents as well as taking a climbing photography clinic. We are undoubtedly going to [...] Today we headed back to civilization. It was our down day before we hit the road again, so we decided to go back into Moab for showers, a bike ride and burgers for dinner. We were sad to leave our canyon campsite, but it was time to move on. [...] Tim and I woke up to another sunny day in the desert. But today was a serious work day and from the first moment the day began we were plugging away at our computers. It was hectic despite our serene location. I found myself taking few breaks to enjoy the incredible [...] Today marked our first true day of working on the road. It was a long time coming, but we are finally truly functional telecommuters. Not just telecommuters, but out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere technomads. The seed was planted with Frank, grew with careful planning, and finally has blossomed with the internet satellite dish. [...]
Happy Easter! This morning we woke up to a bright blue, cool, calm morning. Just another gorgeous day in the desert. We weren’t actually sure what we were going to see after last night…. About 3 am, the wind kicked up and whirled up and over the canyon walls. Frank [...] We have now truly gone off the map….but not off the grid. I knew we were remote when while tracking our progress on our GPS, we moved off any tracked roads into space. It still knew where we were, but had no idea there was a road there too. [...] Today Tim turned 38! It was a day of celebration! The morning was chilly but the sky was clear and blue. It didn’t take long to warm up once the sun was up. We started the day off with a bike ride down the Sovereign Trail. It’s a [...] Tonight I am writing the blog under the nearly full moon, by the campfire, in the middle of the desert about 15 minutes outside of Moab. There isn’t another internet connection for miles but our satellite dish is sending a steady signal and all three of us are linked into the Frank network. Mary Lynn took the photo this morning as I was loading up Frank and now she’s volunteered to drive while I get everything setup for March Madness to begin tomorrow, so I’m filling in on the Blog! We are heading down I-15 just south of Salt Lake. The beauty with Frank is [...] After a big night, lots of people wake up with severe aches and pains. And for us, this day after St. Patrick’s day was no exception. Tim had very bad news to report when we talked this morning. Last night somebody stole his camera. He looked everywhere but it is gone. [...] I think Tim’s picture from the Butte, Montana parade says it all. This is a town that takes their St. Patty’s day seriously. He and Dan traveled up for the wildest parade west of Chicago’s Green River. There’s plenty of Irishman and beer to keep things interesting. I haven’t heard the stories yet, but [...] After some great final games, including Carolina winning the ACC championship for the second year in a row, (those blue grits are working their magic, Sylvia!) Selection Sunday began! Every year it’s a heart breaker for some and a triumph for others. Bubble teams miss the cut, others you’ve [...] Today was a full day on all fronts. Tim focused his time on the last preparations for getting Frank on the road. He and Dan rewired for the satellite dish, figured out cell phone boosting for tethering, and even found two matching travel mugs. I think we’ve got all the bases [...] Today Tim and Dan spent the day in meetings and brainstorming cool new ways to trick out the vans! As you can see, Frank has joined Dan’s van (Vincent Van Gogh? name is still to be determined) for the weekend. Dan has spent a decade fine tuning life-on-the-road tricks and has [...] Belle had a tough day. I don’t know how she knows but anytime somebody leaves, she senses it and gets pouty. She likes her people to stay close. This morning during breakfast, she was cuddled next to Tim, trying to get in some last minute petting before he left for Bozeman. [...] I have to admit, I am one of those people who gets shy when I recognize a face but can’t pull the person’s name out of the cobwebby corners of my memory. In those situations, I tend to meet the person’s eyes, mumble a quick hello and then remove myself so as not [...] |
